Week 4.8 Further down the Road to Revolution

M :How does a government pay for a war? What can citizens do if they disagree?

1. Partner or solo tension barometer: One person will take the side of the colonists and the other of the British government. Write down three actions of the other side that you strongly disagree with. Rank them, and tell why you are more upset about #1. [10]

2. Create an evenly spaced timeline of all the events of chapter 5, section 3. [7]

3. Using an outside source, find five new facts about Chief Pontiac not covered in class. [10-12]

4. Make a colored collage of pictures that show the strategies of the Sons and Daughters of Liberty. Minimum of five pictures with captions. [10-12]

5. Activity, page 149 [Partner] One person writes a newspaper about the Boston Massacre from the colonist point of view and the other from the British government's side. [12]

6. Reasearch Find a letter written by Abigail Adams to her husband. Write three important findings from the letter. [10-12]

1. Journal entry: How would your life be different if you could only travel and communicate within one town or village? Intro, reasons, examples, and conclusion needed . [8]

2. Make a chart that tells a positive and negative for each following groups of people:
1) indentured servants, 2) city women, 3) backcountry women, 4) and African slaves in port towns. [10]

3. Benjamin Franklin has been nominated for the colonist of the year. Write an interview with Mr. Franklin that shows his contributions to the colonies. Ten solid questions and factual answers needed. If with a partner, then 15 questions and answers are required. [12]

4. Three person debate: [written or in-class] Which of the following had the greatest impact on colonial life: The Great Awakening, the development of public schools in New England, or the Enlightenment? You must say a good feature of yours and why you are better than one of the other two. [8]

5. Section review #1-6, p. 123. Write in complete sentences for #3-6. [8]

T Why were the Southern Colonies set up?

1: You have been hired by one of the Southern Colonies to write an advertising campaign to attract settlers to the colony. You need to have all of the following: a catchy jingle, slogan, reasons this colony is the best, and at least one ¬visual. This may involve partners. [15]

2: Study guide, chap 4, sec 3. You may skip the critical thinking this time. [10]

3: Section review p. 112, #1-2. Give relative location clues (It is near, close to, north of, etc) for #1 [8]

W What was the Middle Passage and why was it important to the United States?

4. Chapter 4 Biography Sheet [10]

5. Make a colored portrait of what it was like on the Middle Passage. Colored pencils, markers, or paint on plain white paper. [10]

6. Besides Equiano’s (see option #4) find a diary or journal from an American slave. Highlight three of the most interesting parts of their writing. Please include the name of your source. [13]
