Today we will print off our pictures and paragraphs, work on the limerick as one option for poetry, and attach our flags to the cubes.

1. Find 5 provable facts about the Loch Ness Monster legend. Write down 3 theories (unproven opinions) that people have made over the years to explain what the “monster” is. Include your Upton source for the full points. [15]

Goal: To learn more about some of the outstanding people from these two regions.

Product: a 3-D display for each country which will include:

1. A good picture of the person or the person’s contribution (piece of their art, a symbol that clearly shows what they did.
2. A solid paragraph that summarizes the person’s contributions IN YOUR OWN WORDS. Good introduction, organization, details, and a conclusion are needed.
3. A poem that incorporates the contributions of all three of the biographies rolled into one.
4. A flag of that country displayed on the bottom of the cube.

1. Colonization map: Go to an Upton site to print off a map of South America (culturegrams recommended). Pick at least three European countries that set up colonies in South America. Create a key, giving each European country its own color. Color in at least 10 of the countries of South America, using the key you created. [12]

2. Oral or written paragraph: Compare the population maps on pages 286 and 386. How are the two maps different? You should be able to mention two patterns, and at least one theory on why those patterns exist. [10]

5. 388-391 Create a bar graph showing the number of people per car for one small, one medium-sized, and one large country in terms of land area of Europe. Example: Latvia is small, has 2,385,231 people and 252,000 cars. That means they have one car for every 9.46 people. [10]

Mexico: Week 2.5

Day 1 : What are the physical features of Mexico?
1. [7] : In class option: Popocatepetl is a large volcano close to Mexico City. In the green atlases in the room, Name at least 4 other cities that would be affected if the volcano errupted.
2. [8]: Using the fact box on 290. Calculate the population density for Mexico. Is it higher or lower than the U.S (p. 214)1 For 5 more points, use the CIA factbook website to determine if Mexico is a developed, partially developed, or a developing country. You must write down your evidence.
3. [10-15]: Calculate the cost of airfare and hotel stays for a family of four to one of the Mexican tourist attractions (I would suggest looking up Acapulco, Cancun, or Couzumel). Keep in mind this does not include food, souvenirs, transportation, tickets to events, etc.). Be sure to include your math.

1. Make a chart comparing Banff National Park or Wood Buffalo National Park In Canada to a major park in the United States such as Yellowstone or Yosemite. Topics may include size, number of visitors, types of animals and/or physical features. Points will be reduced if you do not properly annotate your source using MLA format, and if the information is acquired without consulting the Upton Media Center databases. [7-15]

2. Make a sketch map of Canada. Include all of the features listing in the LOCATE heading on the top of page 261. A blank Canadian map may be printed off, but you must fill it in. [8]

Create a key, giving each European country its own color. Color in at least 10 of the countries of South America, using the key you created. [12]
